"Ode to Bohemia No. 5 (Inexhaustible Blooms)"

"Ode to Bohemia No. 5 (Inexhaustible Blooms)" is a recently activated kinetic mural by Kim West 98 PT. The mural is made of 111,692 aluminum pieces that change reflective color throughout the day, flutter in the bay breezes, and undulate the composition.

Wrapping a four sided, four-story 250'x500' parking structure at Google's Mountain View, CA HQ, the work was inspired by its surrounding environs. A deep dive into the native flora and fauna of the Western Santa Clara Valley resulted in the painting of hundreds of watercolor studies from which a palette was distilled, and composition maquettes on paper and canvas were painted at increasing scale. This work was then translated into grid forms first by hand, and then digitized, at which point Google project partners manufactured and installed each 8"x8" flapper panel.
