Retrospective and Release Party
Ray Sumser 08 PT creates large scale images featuring thousands of recognizable pop culture icons.
At 7 pm on March 21 at GCS Agency (201 Jackson Street in San Francisco) he will present a collection of finished pieces and the works that lead to them. Experience his artist’s journey from childhood drawings through art school experimentation, arrival at a signature style and departures there from. Enjoy never-before-seen pieces describing the contour of an early art career.
“As an artist I thrive on a deadline. I decided to have this show on my 40th birthday as a way to force out some projects I’ve wanted to do for a long time while I look back at how I got here. I’m really exicted to share the process with friends, family and newcomers in the place I grew up.”
Beyond mere retrospective, Sumser will debut new projects including his first album of original music (pressed on vinyl) and an animatic for his TV pilot script “High Magic’. He will sell prints, drawings and a new book collecting his work. Attendees who RSVP in advance will receive a free print on arrival.
Sumser has been featured at San Diego Comic Con and on Adult Swim. He funded and completed six Kickstarter Projects and has an avid live drawing following on TikTok as @cartoonray. He was a founding resident at the Tannery Arts Center in Santa Cruz and attended the Rhode Island School of Design with a double major in Painting and Film.
