
Alum launches publishing company
Josephine L. McKee 86 PT founded McKee Bird Publishing this year and is currently publishing her own books, including two novels and a book on color.
Josephine also illustrated and designed the book jackets. "Green Through a Leaf: A Novel", is based on experiences of childhood in Vermont, following the deaths of her father and two brothers. "Gertrude: A Novel", about a woman working in New York City as an interiors colorist. "Color in Seven Chapters: Color in Interiors" is a hybrid book that includes includes research, as well as sections of writing on her experience working with color. Related fictional stories end each chapter.
"Color in Seven Chapters: Color in Interiors" is for design students, those interested in color for interiors or as a subject in itself.
Currently, Bookstores that carry "Green Through a Leaf: A Novel" include: The Bennington Bookshop; Everybody's Books (in Brattleboro, VT); Bartleby's Books (in Wilmington, VT); and The Northshire Bookstore (in Manchester, VT). An earlier manuscript draft of "Green Through a Leaf" was shortlisted for the Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction, judged by Barbara Kingsolver. It was a "New & Notable" book at The Northshire Bookstore this year. The Bennington Bookshop carries "Gertrude: A Novel".

Biography
Josephine L. McKee is a creative writer and worked as a design colorist on many interior design projects. She has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design Interior Architecture Department, School of Visual Arts, and museums in New York City. Awards she’s received include a manuscript that was shortlisted for the Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction, judged by Barbara Kingsolver. She holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and MFA in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied with an artist who had been a student of the colorist Josef Albers. Her writing has been published in periodicals. She is the founder and owner of McKee Bird Publishing. She lives in Vermont.
