"Writing With Pictures"
Writing With Pictures raises appreciation of illustration and awareness of how it differs from other visual art forms, such as design and painting.
This exhibition, co-curated by Professor of Illustration Fred Lynch 86 IL and Annie Dean, highlights the artwork of eight RISD graduates from different cultural backgrounds with unique approaches to illustration. Selected artists represent a wide perspective on contemporary illustration in both traditional and digital media.
Writing with Pictures features artwork by JooHee Yoon 11 IL, Oge Mora 16 IL, Kelly Murphy 99 IL, Antoine Revoy 99 FAV, Eric Telfort 05 IL, Aaron Meshon 95 IL , Claudia del Castillo 06 IL and Fred Lynch 86 IL.
April 20, 2-3 pm, Fred Lynch will discuss two of his latest projects, Drawings from the Road to Rome, when he explored and documented Medieval places in Central Italy, and Visiting the Relatives, where he traced his family’s roots to the exact places where they lived.
April 27, 2-3 pm, Kelly Murphy, a senior faculty member at the Rhode Island School of Design and a New York Times-bestselling author-illustrator, will present a gallery talk and explain her process of step-by-step bringing an author’s words to life. Murphy has notably illustrated the works of William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and Beatrix Potter, as well as book covers for various Newbery Medal-winning novels, creating thousands of illustrations and award-winning art for clients worldwide.
May 4, 12-3 pm, The RISD Alumni Association will be hosting a Writing with Pictures Artist Reception on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 12-3 pm. More information on this event will be available in April.
