While he was a graduate student, Shao-Hsuan Hou (Sean Hou) taught a programming class which I attended. He remembered me because I was the only one using a PC not a Macbook. We then shared much studio time in the Metcalf building where he, an industrial design graduate student, took Jewelry and Ceramics classes. I lived in the Metcalf building as an undergraduate J+M student.
We loved making things together, and taking a break from studio and wander around places in Rhode Island. Other than art and design, we share a love for walking aimlessly, having picnics at parks, and exploring the random corners of cities. After my graduation, we got married in the first park we hiked to: Colt State Park in Bristol, RI. We invited all of our RISD friends who were still in the US after graduation. We even designed our own wedding rings! Now we live in Seattle, WA and have started building our brand - HanJi Jewelry.
