A concrete windmill in a field, with other concrete windmills in the distance

"Tilting at Windmills," an installation at Beals Preserve

Starts: Sat, June 10, 2023
Ends: Sun, September 17, 2023

"Tilting at Windmills," an installation by Jon Laustsen MFA 02 SC, will be available to view from June 10–September 17, 2023.

Like monumental relics of a bygone time, "Tilting at Windmills" bridges prehistoric and distant-future perspectives in a vision born to cultivate greater connections beyond our lifespan. This site-specific installation features a singular, 12 ft. tall wind turbine sculpture made of hand-applied concrete and paint over wood, welded metal and foam. Across the meadow's trail is found a circular ring of smaller wind turbine sculptures that surround an egg-shaped mound on which miniature sprouts of the same emerge.

Art on the Trails is a juried art installation that takes place annually at the Elaine and Phillip Beals Preserve in Southborough, Massachusetts. The exhibition goes from June to September and culminates in a poetry reading on Sunday, September 17 at the Preserve. To read more about Art on the Trails, click here.
