For many children in the diaspora, our first encounters with art were at home among amateur photography, folk art, and varied but precious brick-a-brack. While existing on the periphery of what is considered "high art," the cultural objects collected and catalogued by our parents, aunties, and cousins constituted an existence belonging in often foreign lands.
Black interior life —the physical and the metaphysical – has been the source code for creative output for generations of artists across disciplines.
