The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the ARTS sponsored its first nationally juried portrait competition and a painting by Hillary Younglove 87 IL was selected. John Sheridan commissioned the painting of his late wife and furniture maker, Carolyn Grew-Sheridan, in 1997. The painting presents Carolyn with her t-shirt for racial equality and some of her favorite tools and completed work.
