Mary Curtis Ratcliff awarded grant; in two group shows

In the fall of 2019, I was awarded an individual artist grant by the City of Berkeley. This went toward the continuing development of my kinetic sculptures and also funds a series of classes that I am teaching to members of the city’s homeless population.

Participants are invited to drop-in classes that I offer on location at one of the city’s emergency shelters, Berkeley Community Resource Center. A presentation of the results will be made to the public at the main branch of the public library in the spring of 2020.

I have continued to create suspended, kinetic sculptures for both gallery exhibition and placement through Healing Circle Artworks, my project that installs my work in healthcare and rehabilitation settings. In September, I attended the National Organization of Arts for Health conference in Boston. Furthering my goal of placing artwork in healing environments, I made many contacts, meeting art consultants and architects in the field. Most recently, Technicolor Trees (2019) was purchased the New York City Department of Health and Hospitals. I also installed a ceiling panel piece at El Cerrito Hand Therapy and Acupuncture rehabilitation clinic in October.

I am in two group shows at Mercury 20 Gallery in Oakland, California. The first, Truth, is on view December 5-December 28, 2019. The second, Dare, will be up January 2-February 8, 2020.
