Luxury Nordstrom store in NYC features designs by RISD alumni

Two RISD alumni led and contributed to the design of Nordstrom's new flagship store in Midtown Manhattan.

James Carpenter 72 IL, founder of the design firm James Carpenter Design Associates, worked with Nordstrom's vice president of store design to create a bright, airy and visually accessible department store located on five floors fronted by an undulating glass facade. Two of the floors are located underground. Inside, LED lights are used to light up the glass walls, while chainmail is used as a curtain to shade the interiors from strong light.

Rafael de Cardenas 96 AP, founder of Rafael de Cárdenas / Architecture at Large, designed the split-level Broadway Bar that features a grey-and-yellow palette with custom furniture, as well as a bar in the women's shoe section of the luxury seven-story store. Read more about Broadway Bar
