I’m Rooted, but I Flow presents a selection of recent works by artist Renee Yu Jin 18 SC, including sculptures, installations, and drawings. Curated by Yao Siqing, this exhibition explores the paradox of rootedness and fluidity, reflecting Jin’s cross-cultural experiences between China and the U.S. Through pieces like the Involution Man series and The Kite Flier, Jin engages with anthropologist Xiang Biao’s ideas of “involution” and “suspension,” conveying the tension between personal freedom and societal forces. Her sensitivity to materials and cultural symbols invites viewers into a space where sensory pleasure meets introspective critique, creating an immediate, visceral impact that resonates deeply.
