Friedrich St. Florian Retires
Former faculty member Friedrich St. Florian is retiring after a lengthy, accomplished career in architecture.
In addition to St. Florian's work as an architect, he taught at RISD for over 50 years, serving as the dean of architecture and acting provost. During his time at RISD, he taught in Rome, where he met his future wife, painter Livia Campanella. St. Florian's ability to inspire is not limited to architectural students—he continues to inspire architects in the United States, in Italy, and across the globe. He is most known for creating the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC.
St. Florian dedicated a significant amount of time to designing in Providence. His work can be seen across the downtown area, including the Providence Skybridge near the Providence Place Mall. An article about St. Florian's retirement was recently published in GoLocalProv.
