Book Launch "We Sort of People"
RISD alum and professor of photography, Henry Horenstein and writer Leslie Tucker began working together in 1997, when Tucker invited Horenstein to Maryland to document her family. The project started as a genealogical search for a family whose roots stretched back to the early 1700s, the founding of the first Catholic colony. It grew into a mystery about the multiethnic origins of America, and became a race against time and preservation as the Wesorts (we sort of people) and their descendants slowly passed away.
Henry took the pictures; Leslie interviewed remaining Wesorts. A reimagined Let Us Praise Famous Men (James Agree/Walker Evans), except Leslie's people are not simply reported about; they speak for themselves.
Leslie and Henry will be sharing their new book at the Rhode Island School of Design. They will talk about the project and host a book signing.
