"Three Little Stars" Book Release
Magical true adoption story brings together a family and artist friends 30 years later.
The book is perfectly lovely. The illustrations are unusual and very beautiful and it’s a wonderful story.” -Caldecott Medalist 11.17.2020
Nearly 40 years ago two very excited 18-year-old women met on a crisp fall morning to register for their first classes at one of the oldest and renown art and design schools, the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. One a designer, one an illustrator- both passionate artists venturing into a new world together and forming the sense of family and friendship within a small group of like-minded creatives.
When they reconnected in 2016 during a summer visit to Sedona after following their individual creative paths for decades, the seed for a book collaboration was born. Over hummus and a glass of white wine, under the sycamores of oak creek, Victoria Azarian shared her adoption story of her daughter Elle with Pamela Becker while they watched Elle create monoprints on the printing press at Big Vision Arts at Creekside Plaza.
Victoria, a native New Yorker who’s family originated from Armenia, is a full time single mom and Chief Creative Officer at MKTG. She knew her adoption story was unique and uplifting and needed to be shared with others, and she had a sense her art school friend would be the perfect illustrator for this venture. The project became a reality when Pamela, a long time Sedona resident and artist at Big Vision Arts, created some very unique, moving and colorful visions to illustrate this heart-warming children’s book, Three Little Stars.
Three Little Stars, is a magical and true story of Victoria’s journey to motherhood and to Armenia, the land of her ancestors, one of the most ancient and historic countries in the world. Victoria prayed each night on three little stars with the hope of becoming a mother. The moment she met her adopted daughter, she noticed a beautiful birthmark on her back in the same formation as the three little stars she prayed upon in the night sky. It was a sign that her guardian angels heard her prayers. She truly believes that love, not biology is what creates a parent-child bond.
"Before my daughter was placed in my arms, I felt in my soul that we were meant to be together. Divine Intervention, Energy, God, Universe, however you choose to identify a force greater than ourselves, is what brought us together".
This book is for anyone who has found a startlingly deep connection with another outside of traditional family ties. For anyone who has looked up at the stars and longed for something so much that the stars had to listen. These whispers of the universe are real and remind us something much larger is always at work tracing a much bigger picture in the sky and in our lives. Share this story with anyone who needs a little positive manifestation reminder.
With Victoria Azarian’s lyrical text and stunning illustrations by Pamela Becker, young ones and parents will want to cuddle up and read this book, over and again. Three Little Stars is a relatable story for any new family. A bighearted celebration of new motherhood that may especially appeal to families with adopted children. Pamela Becker of Big Vision Arts at Creekside Plaza in Sedona has illustrated over 30 children’s books and stories. Pamela has always enjoyed observing the pure innocence in children and animals. To best facilitate her illustration, especially for children’s books, she becomes the eyes, ears, and heart of the child from the inside out. As a student of children’s book author and illustrator, Chris Van Allsburg, Pamela was encouraged to capture the peak moments in a story so that each illustration is an entire tale in itself, full of nuance and imagination. She seeks to capture the sacred essence of life in all her art. Her ability to create wonder, curiosity, and stir the imagination is what makes her illustration and her fine art truly magical.
