Alum publishes article for the American Consortium for Equity in Education
Enrico Giori BArch 21 recently wrote a journal article for the American Consortium for Equity in Education (ACE-Ed) entitled "Articulating A Framework for Child Agency in Design from Research to Practice" that discusses student engagement in design.
Enrico's article explores the concept of co-designing in the field of architecture and emphasizes the importance of involving project stakeholders, particularly students, in the design process. It challenges the traditional approach of speaking "for" them, and instead encourages speaking "with" them.
Enrico shares his personal experience of incorporating co-design principles from working on his RISD BArch architecture thesis, where he reconsidered the idea of students as "adults in training" and, rather, positioned them as active participants in shaping their educational environment. The article also highlights the ways that his firm, Architecture for Education—A4E—shares these same views and actively applies them to our student workshop processes. This particular issue of the ACE-Ed Journal also celebrates 5 years of the journal being published.
