
Friedrich St. Florian (1932-2024)
Friedrich St. Florian, beloved RISD Faculty member and architect whose design for the World War II Memorial on the National Mall, died on Dec. 18 at his home in Providence, R.I. He was 91.
Since his passing, St. Florian's contributions to architecture have been memorialized in publications across the US, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and locally in Providence.
St. Florian was a beloved member of the RISD's faculty for over 50 years. Since learning the news, alumni and members of the RISD community have shared remembrances and tributes on social media.
