In March, a documentary film Josh Pearson 86 PT edited titled Summer of Soul (…Or, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised) won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
This is the second film Pearson has edited that has been nominated for an Oscar, the first being What Happened, Miss Simone? in 2015. Summer of Soul also garnered him a few awards for Best Editing, including the American Cinema Editors Eddie award.
Pearson says, "I graduated with a degree in Painting, class of 1986, and never imagined I’d end up with two films at the Oscars. There is something similar in the solitary, somewhat monastic acts of painting and film editing."
