"Maine Wood 2024"
The “Warner Rocker,” a rocking chair by Geoffrey Warner 76 PH, is currently on display in Rockport, Maine, as part of Maine Wood 2024.
Maine Wood is a juried, biennial exhibition designed to showcase the breadth, creativity, and excellence of Maine’s woodworking community. For 2024, the Center received 63 submissions from Maine artists and artisans. Twenty-four were selected.
During Maine Wood 2024’s opening reception and awards ceremony on February 2, the “Warner Rocker” won the “Best in Furniture” award. Geoffrey Warner incorporated curves, angles, and signature shaping to create a piece he calls the “most comfortable and beautiful design I’ve made so far.” Construction techniques include laminated lumbar support, steam-bent continuous arms, and a shaped hardwood seat that cradles the body, allowing the spine to relax and rock in healthy comfort. The “Warner Rocker” was designed by Warner, owner of Owl Furniture, in 2019. Owl Furniture uses innovative design and skilled craftsmanship to create beautiful, durable, and ergonomic furniture. The furniture design/build workshop is located in Stonington, Maine.
The exhibit is open until April 24, 2024, at the Messler Gallery at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship.
The Messler Gallery is located at 25 Mill Street, Rockport, Maine, and is open Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm.
