
Andrea Sears (d. August 8, 2024)
Andrea Sears 74 SC died on Thursday, August 8, 2024 after a brief illness.
She graduated from RISD with a BFA in Sculpture, and went on to Pratt Institute in New York City to earn an MFA in Conceptual Art. She worked as a radio journalist for over 30 years, focusing on social justice issues. For most of that time she reported for WBAI, a Pacifica affiliate in New York, with frequent work for National Public Radio. She was active political in LGBT rights, and participated in a variety of trans rights organizations. After retiring from news work, she worked in a variety of acting roles, including as a standardized patient at the Morchand Center for Clinical Excellence at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She is survived by her wife Mary O'Shaughnessy, and children Jonah Sears and Dounia Rathbone.
