
2025 RISD Serves Award: Byron Dean Kuth BArch 86
Byron Dean Kuth, FAIA, is a LEED-accredited architect, co-founder, and design principal of Kuth Ranieri Architects. This innovative multidisciplinary practice leads in green building and has been recognized by numerous regional and national accolades.
Nominators applauded his work with townships, municipalities, and nonprofits and his ability to craft visionary plans for civic and commercial spaces through thoughtful design and an inclusive, resilient, community-focused process. Parallel to practice, Kuth extends his commitment to advancing sustainable design through the Deep Green Design Alliance (DGDA). This collaborative think tank investigates the integration of ecology, technology, and culture via design solutions.
Kuth is the Vice President of the LEF foundation for Art and the Environment and serves on the Board of Trustees at the California College of the Arts. His deep commitment to service is evident in his work on the Steering Committee for the Center of Performing & Media Arts at San Francisco State University, the Board of the AIA San Francisco Center for Architecture & Design, the Mayor’s Steering Committee for the Center for African Diaspora, the selection committee for the UCSF Mission Bay Campus Design and design lead for Rebuild Growth Marin (RGM).. Throughout his community involvement, Kuth has supported green design initiatives in industrial design, textiles, architecture, and public art. In addition to his design, planning, and service work, he has taught at the California College of the Arts, Harvard Graduate School of Design, and UC Berkeley.
The RISD Serves Award recognizes alumni who have achieved distinction through significant contributions and voluntary service to improving the lives of others over a sustained period of time. The award recognizes the values of service and civic responsibility that reflects RISD’s core values.
