Announcing Deana Lawson at the Pinault Collection

David Kordansky Gallery is pleased to annouce that Deana Lawson will present her first solo exhibition in France at the Bourse de Commerce as part of Corps et âmes, an exploration of representations of the body in contemporary art featuring over one hundred works from the Pinault Collection. Lawson’s work closely examines the human experience, intertwining personal, collective, and imagined histories to create a distinct form of storytelling. While Lawson utilizes aspects of documentary tradition, her practice transcends observational photography, transforming it into a medium of powerful expression and critique. Her images then become a tapestry that seamlessly weaves mythology, intimacy, spirituality, and ancestry into a single frame.

In this exhibition at the Pinault Collection, Lawson continues to push the boundaries of her art. These portraits create a narrative that bridges the artist’s own biography, symbolism, and cultural observation, offering a profound exploration of contemporary identity.
