"Mushroom Eyes" (2020)

Carrots, mushrooms, broccoli, zucchini
An assembly of cut up vegetables, created during the pandemic isolation. My husband had just died, and I was grieving at home alone. Desperate for a creative outlet, I started making faces with my veggies and fruit as I was preparing my dinner. I started posting them on Facebook and got such a positive response, that I kept making food faces until I had enough for an exhibit at the local library. Looking back to my time at RISD studying Illustration, I was always drawn to cartoons and humorous art. So making these silly veggie faces, I feel as if I've come full circle. I see art everywhere, and I thank RISD for training me to see beyond the ordinary.
