"Fishmonger in Kowloon, Hong Kong"

Fishmonger in Kowloon, Hong Kong

Watercolor, gouache, ink
13 x 20 inches

This painting is part of a series of portraits of people that work in the street markets of Hong Kong. It was created when my family and I lived in Hong Kong for a year. I was drawn to people who work with their hands, such as butchers, fishmongers, and shoe repairmen. My experience as an editorial illustrator for publications such as The New York Times, The New Yorker and The Wall Street Journal informed how I approached these paintings: images with a strong focal point that are humorous, engaging and accessible.

I also create illustrations, fine art, comics and graphic novels using the name “The Zen of Nimbus."
