Illustration 75th Anniversary Alumni Exhibition

Celebrating 75 years of RISD Illustration

To honor the department's milestone, we invited alumni to participate in the RISD Illustration 75th Anniversary Alumni Exhibition. The response was incredible, and we received over 200 submissions, spanning 67 years of illustration graduates, from the Class of 1958 to the Class of 2024.

To encourage participation from as many alumni as possible in our global community, our exhibition features high-quality digital prints of alumni work, in order to provide the widest access and highlight the broadest variety of mediums. We gave our alumni free rein to submit whatever they felt best showcased their work, whether it was a fine art illustration, a book illustration, a still from a film, an industry-related piece they worked on, or any art form they were currently expressing their creativity through.

We also asked alumni to provide a description of their piece and/or artist's statement about their work, including anything they'd wanted to add about how illustration informs their process.

In addition to honoring the departmental anniversary, our exhibition was specifically designed to be on view during Families Weekend 2025 so that families visiting campus could see the incredible diversity of work that has been inspired and shaped by studying illustration.

The exhibition was conceived of by the members of the Illustration Advisory Council in celebration of the department’s 75th anniversary.
