For the past few years, I have become obsessed with antique frames, primarily from the 1800-1900s. Finding the frame first, I create an image to match up with, essentially "live in" that particular frame. The mixed media paintings are done on hand carved birch wood-many of these older frames are irregularly shaped so I have to carve the wood to fit the frame. Materials include (in no particular order): inks, pencil, gouache, pastels, antique fabric, antique lace, gold leaf, acrylic paint, colored pencils, oil pastels, and antique papers from the 1800s-1900s. Each layer of the painting is sealed for safe handling.
