Twitchy Witchy Itch

Priscilla Tey's 15 IL latest book "Twitchy Witchy Itch" will be published on the 13th of July this year, under Candlewick Press.

Priscilla Tey graduated from RISD Illustration in 2015 and has since been working as a full-time teacher and picture book illustrator in Singapore. The idea for this book was actually conceived way back in her days at RISD, in Judy Sue's Picture and Word class, alongside her first book "In-Between Things" (Candlewick Press, 2018). So, between graduating and this book's completion, it's been quite a journey as she now find herself in a very different creative headspace. In many ways, the changes and growth that we experience as artistic individuals are echoed in the book's story.

"Twitchy Witchy Itch" is a story about a witch who becomes overly obsessed about cleaning her home, and maintaining a pristine front for a couple of witchy neighbours. As she slowly finds out, perhaps there is value in letting things be rough around the edges. For Priscilla, this story is about accepting our individual eccentricities and learning to embrace the quirks of those around us, especially the new and unfamiliar. In the book, the quirks of each witchy character presents itself visually in different ways. The main protagonist can't help but have itchy squiggles follow her around. On the other hand, everything her witchy neighbours touch appear to offset shapes of colour, or glitch and send pixels astray. Visual hijinks abound in this wacky tale that navigates the ups and downs of friendship and identity.

"Twitchy Witchy Itch" hits the bookshelves on the 13th of July, and is currently available for pre-orders online.
