Alum's work to be featured during Children's National Hospital Research Week
Jules Sherman 94 ID is the Biodesign Program Director at Children's National Hospital in Washington DC (CNH). This year she and her team from UMD Fischell Institute and The University of Oregon Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact have won a Founder's Auxiliary Grant from CNH to pursue a patent-pending project called "Trach Sense™."
They are proud to share that their abstract “Tracheostomy Tube Complication Monitoring Accessory to Alert Caregivers of Accidental Decannulation and Obstruction Emergencies” has been accepted for a poster presentation at Children's National Hospital Research Week on April 24. Next up, they will be working with students at Georgetown University to design a Trach Sense™ connected application for mobile monitoring, and applying for an RO1 grant this fall. This project was inspired through a qualitative study with parents who have a child with a tracheostomy, which is now published in Qualitative Health Research (QHR). QHR is a peer-reviewed monthly journal that provides an international, interdisciplinary forum to enhance health care and further the development and understanding of qualitative research in health-care settings.
