Self-Portraits From Black Photographers Reflecting on America

Nitashia Johnson MAE 15 was recently featured in a New York Times article featuring black photographers reflecting on life in America.

Johnson says, “the intake of bad information and imagery can have a harsh effect on your mental state, placing trauma where joy used to live. Because of that, I’ve had to fight in order to see the good on this planet and grant myself permission to enjoy the little things in life, such as the beauty of the earth, special moments with my family and others’ positive energy. I make it my daily duty to study the unique things in the world as if I’m looking at a painted canvas.”
