In early December, Tacoma Art Museum will present the solo exhibition Sea Change: The Art of Karen Hackenberg. This exhibition will feature the work of Karen Hackenberg with an anticipated checklist of approximately 35 works, including paintings and prints. The artwork focuses on manmade bits of detritus – plastic bottles, cans, toys – that the artist finds on the beaches near her home in Port Townsend, WA. Inspired by the artist’s vibrant expressions of environmental concern, TAM is using the mounting of Sea Change as the impetus to improve sustainability in its own practices. The exhibition will be part of the museum’s Northwest Perspective Series, a series dedicated to the art and artists of the Pacific Northwest.
