RISD Connections Decades Apart

During my time at RISD I fell in love with everything about the Nature Lab: from the wide collection of butterfly specimens to the ape and chimp skulls to the live creatures by the window.

Being able to come back on October 12, 2019 with the chance to sit and draw here was the highlight of my weekend. This building where the Nature Lab is, is the same building in which my grandmother, Elisa Khachian 57 AE, had also taken her classes while attending RISD. To be able to connect with her on the magic of going to college here has been an awesome experience. We both talk about how we would love to come back and do it all over again if we had the chance.

RISD Weekend is the best way to have a taste of this wonderful experience in our lives again. Elisa still paints and has art shows in Connecticut and I currently work in New Jersey as a graphic artist for NBCUniversal, still finding time to draw from life. From time to time we show each other our work and give critiques. It also raised my spirits when I bumped into a few fellow classmates at the reunion and just got to catch up and talk about our life experiences and to know that there are other people out there building their own nature labs. Please enjoy some of the photos I took of the lab while I was there!
