Print Day in May is More Relevant Than Ever Before

I am the founder of Print Day in May, a global, community building event that takes place in both public and private spaces worldwide, every year on the first Saturday in May. The event began in 2007, with a dozen friends making prints in separate studios in the Monterey Bay Area, In 2019, the event boasted participation by tens of thousands of printmakers and art lovers in all 50 US states, over 60 countries and all 7 continents.

The event is free, anyone can participate by making a print anywhere on earth, and letting us know about it by posting their work on a number of social media outlets and our website. Our event sponsors offer participants art supplies, residencies and gift certificates through our hashtag campaigns.

This year, Print Day in May is more relevant than ever. As we practice social distancing, are inundated with terrible news and struggle to stay positive and productive, Print Day in May is an inspiring and safe way to stay connected with thousands of people, all doing what they love to do, at the same time. It is an event that celebrates and spreads a love of printmaking and the creative process.

I would really appreciate the support that RISD-Alumni can offer, as we attempt to recruit exponential participation in Print Day in May during this terrible time in human history.
