Fleet Library featured in the PBS Books series "American Stories: A Reading Road Trip"

American Stories: A Reading Road Trip is a monthly video series from PBS Books and the Library of Congress that brings your community along on a literary journey through all 50 states and select U.S. territories. Each 30-minute episode explores local authors, bookstores, libraries, and history—designed to engage lifelong learners and readers as we head toward the country's 250th Anniversary. Authors, librarians, and book lovers recommended some of their favorite places in Rhode Island and RISD's Fleet Library was among the ones highlighted in the first episode of the series.

Rhode Island—Small State, Epic Stories
Don’t let the Ocean State’s size fool you—Rhode Island is bursting with stories that echo far beyond its rocky shores. From Edgar Allan Poe’s gothic whispers to Edith Wharton’s Gilded Age elegance… from Caldecott Medalist Christopher Denise’s enchanting Knight Owl to H.P. Lovecraft’s eerie imaginings… this debut episode explores a place where history, artistry, and imagination collide.

This is just the first chapter of a 56-stop journey celebrating the books, authors, and literary landmarks that help define our national identity.

The episode aired on September 10.
