The Passing of RISD’s 15th President Roger Mandle
Dear Fellow Alumni,
I write to you today with the sad news that Roger Mandle, who served as RISD’s fifteenth president from 1993–2008, passed away this weekend. Under his extraordinary leadership, Roger oversaw completion of a $115 million capital campaign that brought new technology, scholarships and other financial assets to RISD, along with extensive improvements to academic facilities. His presidency is credited with evolving RISD into the internationally acclaimed institution of art and design that it is today.
Those of you who knew Roger personally know how much he valued his involvement with RISD students as a champion, mentor and friend. His indelible mark on RISD will not be forgotten. Please read more about his remarkable legacy on risd.edu.
The Mandle family has requested that in lieu of flowers, gifts be made to RISD in support of the Roger and Gayle Mandle Fellowship. The fellowship’s impact was profiled last fall in Momentum magazine on alumni.risd.edu.
