Ester Kislin and Nicky Marino open Sounds, their design studio and shop, in North Fork, Long Island
Ester Kislin 12 CR and her husband Nicky Marino 12 PR first opened Sounds in Brooklyn in 2018. Sounds is unique in their curated collection of sustainable, ethically sourced, cruelty-free goods. They also have their own line launched just before the pandemic. They create design-forward soaps, candles, oils, herbal teas, and more. The full in-house collection is available on their website. Their products are sold in over 60 stores nationwide and they just began international partnerships with stores in France and the UK.
Sounds carries products from many RISD alumni at the shop. Since opening it has been very important for them to support RISD graduates and the community we learned so much from.
Alumni work featured at Sounds includes tableware by Sean Gerstley 11 CR, mirrors by Elise McMahon 09 FD, and more. Some of their notable RISD alumni collaborations include this summer's launch of their second series of artist edition towels with Emma Safir 12 PR and Sarah Harrison 13 PT, and the very popular soap dish which they created with George Coffin 12 FD and Jillian Wiedenmayer BArch 12 of Studio Den Den.
