King Covid and the Kids Who Cared
My name is Nicole Rim, and I graduated from RISD back in 2002 in Graphic Design. Though illustration is definitely not my strong suit (so I feel a little embarrassed to put this out there), I felt compelled to quickly write/illustrate an ebook about the coronavirus for young kids in my community and church.
I live in a very ethnically diverse city with many immigrant and refugee families, so there are a number of kids who experience language barriers with their parents. With this in mind, I wanted to provide an accessible and free e-book that would help kids make sense of what was going on with the pandemic.
The ebook (which doubles as a therapeutic coloring book), was posted on my Facebook and has been shared many times. It has also been utilized by teachers from different states, community leaders (in my city) and health care workers.
The book is also available in Spanish. My hope is that the e-book would inform, encourage and empower kids to care for themselves and for others amid the pandemic.
