Bruce Hendler (1945-2024)
I am writing on behalf of my husband, Bruce Hendler, Class of 1973. My name is Lisa Hendler On June 18, 2024 Bruce Hendler passed away after a long illness. He was 78 years old. Before his retirement, Bruce was the Chief Landscape Architect for the NYC Department of Design and Construction. Prior to that position, Bruce worked for several prominent architectural design firms in senior Landscape Architecture roles. He authored several books. His most notable book, Caring for the Land, received the ASLA Merit Award in 1979. It was the first publication ever awarded a merit award by the ASLA. Bruce also taught at several universities, including, Harvard, Columbia and City College of New York.
He is very sorely missed by his family of 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters, myself, his wife of 40 years, and his 2 grandsons and 3 granddaughters.
