Alum Marks 50 Years of Advising Architects and Engineers

Not long after graduating from RISD in 1970 with a BFA in architecture, Frank A. Stasiowski, FAIA, realized that while skilled at designing the built environment, most architects struggled with executing key business functions necessary to support and grow their practices. That, plus an insatiable desire to help others succeed, inspired him to earn his MBA and start Newton, MA-based PSMJ Resources, now the leading business practices consulting and training organization for the global architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. In October, PSMJ celebrated its 50th year with an employee photo on the 50-yard-line at the New England Patriots’ Gillette Stadium.

In addition to leading PSMJ, Frank is a prolific author, writing hundreds of articles for the Professional Services Management Journal and numerous books for architecture and engineering firm leaders, including his best-sellers The Value Pricing Imperative for Design Firms, Impact 2020, and Impact 2030.

As an international speaker to audiences from five to more than 5,000, Frank is well-known for his data-driven (and a bit daring) look into the future of the business of architecture and engineering. His energetic and down-to-earth speaking style always draws rave reviews.

50 years in business has inspired Frank to look back at the many “firsts” that he and the PSMJ team have blazed for the AEC industry and look forward to what the industry will look like 50 years from now. As one example of true impact, just last week, an engineering firm CEO wrote to say:

“You had a great and very positive influence on my career for which I'm eternally grateful. You're a brilliant man, Mr. Stasiowski”

This is what gets Frank and his team of consultants excited about the next 50 years. In all the change stirring from private equity flooding into the AEC space, AI poised to upend tried-and-true business models, and waves of generational change bringing new energy and perspective to the industry, the mission remains what is has always been…to improve the business performance of AEC organizations worldwide. PSMJ will focus on providing the data, the resources, and the expert advice that AEC leaders need to navigate change and capitalize on the opportunities that lie ahead.
