Shaping Water
Chuxiong Feng was recently shortlisted in the Shaping Water competition, organized by Dezeen in partnership with Villeroy & Boch and Ideal Standard. His installation was exhibited from May 20–22 at Villeroy & Boch’s showroom during Clerkenwell Design Week in London.
The competition invited designers to propose a striking public installation for St John’s Gate, a historic landmark in the heart of Clerkenwell, with a construction budget of £15,000.
Feng’s installation, Formless, explores the essence of water through sound and light. At its core, a cluster of resin sound pipes plays recordings of water from around the world, encircled by a field of blue and grey resin tubes. As daylight moves across the surface, the tubes shift in tone and transparency, evoking the fluid and ever-changing nature of water across different environments.
