LaiSun Keane Gallery is  proud to open a group exhibition Calibration with ceramic artists Danyang Anna Song MFA 23 CR, Audrey An, Raina Lee, and Cathy Lu. This exhibition will be on view through July 7th, 2024 at LaiSun Keane Gallery with an Opening Reception on Friday, June 7 from 5 pm to 8pm and an Artist Talk moderated by Zach Ngin on Saturday, June 8 at 1 pm.

This exhibition explores how contemporary artists utilize technology, including 3D printing and digital tools, in the creation of ceramic artworks. Artists Audrey An and Danyang Song employ 3D printing technology, while Raina Lee and Cathy Lu combine traditional hand-building methods with 3D printing and mould-making to make statements about culture and image-making in a highly digitized world. Rather than viewing technology as a shortcut or time-saver, these artists consider it a versatile tool integral to their artistic practice.

Metaphorically, combining technology and craft in the practice for these artists, who are either immigrants, or children of immigrants from East Asian countries, represents the constant demand to "switch code" and learn multiple languages in order to fit in, and at the same time carving out a space that they can belong.
