"The Weaponized Camera in the Middle East" Book Release

Liat Berdugo's The Weaponized Camera in the Middle East: Videography, Aesthetics, and Politics in Israel and Palestine has been published by Bloomsbury / I.B.Tauris.

It uses citizen-recorded video as its core material to take a visual studies approach to conflict and the pursuit of sociopolitical justice via visuality. The book traces how how Palestinians originally filmed to “shoot back” at Israelis, who were armed with weapons as the occupying army, but then Israeli private citizens began filming back at Palestinians with their own cameras, creating a simultaneous, echoing counter surveillance.
