Alum edits new anthology series
Virginia Barrett MAT 88 is the guest editor of a new anthology series from Jambu Press (San Francisco) which aims to capture some of the many ways poets, writers, and visual artists perceive and respond to red in all of its various names and shades.
The first RED: a Hue Are You anthology was released in October, 2023, the second in the series BLUE is forthcoming in May, 2024.
Virginia's focus on the interplay between poetry and art has been a lifelong passion, one she continues to explore and share not only as an editor and poet, but as an arts educator, a career she began at RISD in the MAT program. Virginia earned her MFA in Writing from the University of San Francisco where she was poetry editor of Switchback. Her six books of poetry include Between Looking (Finishing Line Press, 2019) and Crossing Haight—San Francisco Poems (Jambu Press, 2018).
Her prose has appeared in The Writer’s Chronicle, The Raven’s Perch, Awakenings and elsewhere. Lead designer for Light on the Walls of Life—a tribute anthology to Lawrence Ferlinghetti (Jambu Press, 2022), she is also the editor of four anthologies including RED: a Hue Are You anthology (Jambu Press, 2023). She has taught poetry, creative writing, and visual art throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for over two decades, including in the MFA in Writing program at the University of San Francisco.
