Art by Cynthia Lahti 85 IL will be included in the soon-to-be-released feature film Showing Up. The film follows a sculptor preparing to open a new show as she balances her creative life with the daily dramas of family and friends.
Over 50 of Lahti's ceramic sculptures and mixed material drawings were used to represent the work created by this artist, who is played by Michelle Williams. In some cases she is shown actually creating Lahti's sculptures. Lahti worked closely with Williams and the director Kelly Reichardt on this unique project, ensuring that her creation of the artworks and her studio practice felt authentic.
The film premiered at the 2022 Cannes FIlm Festival and was also selected for the 2022 New York Film Festival. It will be released to theaters in the spring of 2023.
