About this piece: Christmas Legends of European Folklore celebrates the rich and mysterious tales of the season, drawing from the vibrant colors and decorative patterns of traditional European folk art. This series brings legendary figures to life with fierce, expressive characters that tell stories of both hope and fear. Snegurotka, the "Snow Maiden" of Russia, is a delicate and magical creature whose longing for love and life makes her beauty as fleeting as winter snow. Krampus, the "Christmas Devil" of Germany, is wild and mischievous, punishing misbehaving children with his malevolent tricks. La Befana, the "Christmas Witch" of Italy, delivers gifts to children on Epiphany Eve, rewarding the good and leaving coal for the naughty.
Each figure tells a story through exaggerated costumes, dramatic movement, and commanding expression, exploring the personality, history, and myth behind these iconic characters, transforming folklore into a visual narrative that is both playful and powerful. By blending storytelling with ornamental design, the series honors tradition while giving these ancient legends a modern, unforgettable presence.

Born and raised in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where I still live today, my work is deeply rooted in the traditions and visual language of Pennsylvania Dutch folk art. The decorative motifs, vibrant colors, and symmetrical forms found in hex signs, Fraktur, and other regional crafts have profoundly shaped my creative voice. These influences allow me to bring a sense of heritage, storytelling, and timeless design into contemporary applications, from consumer products to brand identities.
I enjoy blending history, stylistic expectations, and market needs to create sellable art that stands out in a saturated market. By blending my cultural background with a contemporary approach, I create work that feels both familiar and fresh, bridging the gap between tradition and trend in a way that resonates with modern audiences.
